Arise, Sir David Beckham: Football Legend Honoured by King Charles at Royal Windsor Ceremony

The football icon received a honorary title at Windsor Castle on the weekday. The ex-national team leader, fifty, was one of the individuals accepting honours for his contributions to sport and charity. Earlier this year, he stated he was “immensely proud” of being recognised in the King’s birthday honours.

Soccer Achievements

Beckham made his Premier League debut for Manchester United in the mid-nineties and was part of the team that secured a dramatic Champions League final victory in 1999 when they beat Bayern Munich with last-minute strikes.

In total, he netted eighty-five scores and collected honours including multiple English championships and two FA Cups as a footballer, before ending his playing career in 2013. Alongside his football career, he has supported a number of charity causes, including acting as a charitable representative for humanitarian aid organisation the United Nations Children's Fund since 2005.

Charitable and Other Roles

Last year, Beckham, who has referred to himself as a “devoted monarchist”, was named an ambassador for the King’s Foundation, an educational charity established by the King in 1990. In the late nineties he was declared top fashion icon by GQ magazine and he has posed for companies such as H&M, the Italian designer, and the luxury label.

Beckham tied the knot with Victoria in 1999 and the couple have four children together – Brooklyn, Romeo, the third child, and their daughter.
