Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have found a variety of engaging creations from small studios. But, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game includes a protagonist that is actually a turd trying to make its way to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
How you interact is straightforward: just use a single jump button. Throughout numerous stages, encounter mini-bosses and visit a market to buy skins for your fecal avatar.
Plan your jumps carefully, as a error forces beginning again. Jump using floating orbs to propel your character upward, cross disappearing platforms, and touch triggers to unlock hidden paths. Earn coins to purchase more difficult stages where things ramps up.
Visually, the game features eye-catching level designs and catchy background music. The simple graphics with shifting abstract forms could recall fans of beloved games like Earthbound.
Although hard to name previous releases where you are a piece of feces, gaming frequently incorporated fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, players create explosives from protagonist excrement. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as fertilizer. Naturally, fecal references appears extensively in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already earned notable recognition, such as winning at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is available at present on Steam, with the complete version set to arrive on Steam this November.
